Hey gang, been a while since I had an issue I cant solve.
My 1996 explorer transmission was slipping real bad. no reverse and major slipping in forward.
I scraped my 1995 explorer. the transmission in the 1995 Expolrer was rebuilt earlier so I pulled it out before i scraped it. The 1995 Transmission worked well before i removed..
I recently removed the bad trans in my 1996 and put in the one from the 1995. I now only have reverse. I adjusted the linkage and its all correct now.. that solved my no start issue ;) but not sure what gives? any thoughts??/

What do you mean you were able to move back and forth, and witch one?
Any way are you sure all all electrical plugs are plugged in tight and snapped into place, loose will not work, especially the DTR sensor.

I clarified my original post so its more clear, sorry about that. I guess I was tired and frustrated when i posted.

I went back out last night to double check all the plugs/ connectors. everything is tight till the point i heard a click and no further movement in the connectors. I checked the trans fluid and removed a pint. It may have been a little over full, however, it still wont drive forward unless I rev the crap out of it. I checked my Bill from Mr. Transmission and they even installed a new pump so that rules out a bad pump. Even removed the upper transline by the rad. I put the park break on, put it in gear and checked the hose and it was still pumping out fluid. Not gushing but was pumping out. So that tells me its pumping fluid in gear.

The fluid at the rad comes from the torque converter. if it pulls hard, no slip in reverse, the pump is good. I don't know what else to suggest on the install. Are you sure the DTR sensor is not damaged. It's the one the shift lever goes thru. This tells the PCM what gear you selected and then it applies the correct solenoids. If your linkage is adjusted properly it will start in park and neutral. Don't know why you had to adjust the cable, usually not necessary, unless you moved the adjustment when you removed the 96 old trans, or the linkage pin inside got bent in the accident on the 95.

Well thanks for the input, I had to adjust the linkage because it would not start in park. At fist i thought it was a fuse or relay, I played about for a while until it dawned on me to check the linkage. I followed a procedure found here on this site and it took no time to set it, so that problem is solved.

I noticed yesterday that it will drive forward. It takes a bit one i shift from park to drive or reverse to drive. once i get moving it seems to shift ok. I can come to a stop and then proceed with no hesitation but it once again pauses and the slowly moves forward after I switch gears back to and forward gear.

Im thinking i should drop the pan and take a look see but I will await for opinions.
