A/C Orifice Valve...

I have been following your work for awhile, and I am very impressed. I have a question. Have you ever heard of a product called the "smart variable orifice valve"? It is suppose to have a benefit of reduced vent temperatures at idle and improved fuel economy. What do you think?

I've used a VOR on our '92 X ever since I switched it to r-134A. I don't think it helped mileage any, and I don't think it really would.

It basically decreases the size of the oriface tube at lower RPMs and then increases the size back to normal size at higher rpms. From what I've read it doesn't increase it past normal size so it wouldn't affect the compressor load at higher rpms.. only lower rpms.

I have not looked into this device as of yet. Maybe sometime in the future.

better mpg thru science

I have used some of Al's modifications and his advice and routinely get 14-15 mpg pulling my 25 ft aerolite travel trailer 65 to 70 mph in od. Go Al!!! xlt 4.0 sohc 3.73's

My normal commuter mileage is 17.8 when I travel out of town in my 5.0 I nail down 23 average and I usually can be found at 70 to 75MPH. My normal travles take me from Dallas to OKC several times a month. I guess if I were to put the synthetics into this one like I do on my Mustang i could get the mileage up. My last X was a 96 5.0 and it got an average of 18 commuting and a shade over 20 on the highway.

what year is your current 5.0 getting 23mpg?

I'm going to take a wild stab and say it's also a 2WD 5.0.

I'm lucky to get 15.5mpg. But my 25 mile (one-way) drive to work takes just shy of an hour. Love the lost mpg from stop lights and traffic.

It's a 1999XLT 5.0 Limited. One point. Lowering the front by 3/4" makes a difference. Realign once you do it though. I lowered my 1996 2WD 5.0 xlt and it picked up 1.5 MPG.

This particular 5.0 2WD Limited get the best mileasge of all three 5.0's. I can't explain it. I just drive it! And I like it too!

First HHO Gas Mileage Data

The first gas mileage data from my HHO generator experiment is available now.

The first trial was all "in town" driving. I traveled 247.5 miles and used 9,6 gallons of BP 89 gas for a net mileage of 25.78 MPG.

This compares to my average of 23 MPG "in town" mileage. Thats a 2.78 MPG gain.

Is it possible that I biased the evaluation by more conservative driving? Maybe.

A highway road trip is upcoming.

Al, did you mean BP gas? or BO? what's that? another brand I don't know? just wondering.

do you normally take it easy in town like you do on the highway?

**mass EF HHO frenzy now begins**

I'm holding out for the "Aldive Signature Series HHO Kit" to be released, then jumping on the HHO bandwagon

Aldive, can we get a group buy when you put it out on the market?

Yes indeed it was BP.

I always take it easy. Its part of living and dying in three quarter time :)

I have no intention of marketing anything.

you must have missed my sarcasm...

on a serious note, once you've fine tuned your HHO kit down the road, we'd appreciate a parts list to build our own... after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery..

following your past work I've already gained 4 mpg, and with gas only heading up, I'm anxious to keep going with the mods..

definately can't wait to hear about additional testing.
that's quite a high gain, for something that can be made so inexpensively.

I'll have to start looking into that a little more.
