My thoughts on a 4" SOA flip.

Just dont do what damarble did. I am wearing my engineers hat, cutting the frame like that is going to lower the entire rear end alright, cause it is going to fail and break the frame, and may even kill somebody.

If you the mean frenching the frame pics he posted, I don't think he did that but he posted the pics from a thread on pirate4x4.

However, I see no problem with doing that if you do it right. Boxing the Frame and put the mount into the frame should be more than strong enough. Heck, the factory hanger is only bolted and riveted to the C channel frame at that point.

if done properly boxing and frenching will make that section of frame stronger than stock.

Agreed, if it was left as open C-channel, then ya I can see some problems arising. But boxing it in would be necessary.

Would moving the shackle mount on top of the frame do any good, while using a 2" lift shackle? that should gain you at least an inch or two less lift in the rear from a SOA.

For every inch the end of the leaf spring moves up or down, you will effectively get about half of that. So for example, a shackle 2" longer than stock will get you about 1" of lift (not exactly, but close). If you move the shackle mount above the frame while using the same length shackle, you would probably have to notch the bottom of the frame (and I suggest boxing that area in as well) to allow the shackle to move throughout its complete motion. If you did this, plus frenching the front mount, that would lower the rear end quite a bit I think.
