Well I've decided to take the plunge and try my own trans rebuild. I've taken notes from glaciers rebuild diary as well as the frakentranny. Although I'm not doing a frakentranny, I'm more or less documenting it for myself aswell as hopefully someone can assist me in this hence the fact I've got no experience in this at all. I've torn engines apart and rebuilt them from the 4.0 that's in my explorer to the basic lawnmower engine. I've got the Trans blown apart yesterday and I'm following glaciers notes of bagging and tagging, but I bought bags that have a note area already on them.

I got to get elite to post pics, sorry guys. Give me a week until I get paid.

IMO, elite isn't worth it to post pics. They're only 800x600 resolution. I personally prefer using www.dropbox.com.

Thxs for the info nate Kiki I'll give it a whirl

On the other hand, by going elite you're helping support the site beyond giving valuable advice...

True Larry I am having issues with Dropbox at the moment but we shall see

I agree with that. It's good to support the site. My point was that some of the features are outdated and not worthwhile. This site as a whole is old and cobbled-together, it needs a fair amount of help. I think many of us support the site purely with ads. I'd be more apt to donate if the embedded images were larger, there were no ads for Elite members and more care/maintenance was put into the site. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to slag Rick off, this is a great site and invaluable resource for RBVs. It's just showing it's age and could probably use a team of people fixing/improving things.

800x600 is what works well within the format of any message board.

You are more than welcome to store your photos elsewhere, but our experience is that most people do not maintain their offsite photo albums for very long, and we end up with a lot of threads with dead photo links.

I've been using google plus to do the job. It's a little convoluted to get it to work though. You have to post to google plus, make it public, then go to the "picassa" portal for google photos/google plus, select the pic you want, then hit "link to this photo" on right, then select the large thumbnail option and embed photo only option, to give you a link that will work. It should say "googleusercontent...". Then copy and paste this into the image dialog on the EF module.

Thanks for the reply Rick. I know this is getting off-topic but I feel like this discussion should continue.

For embedded images, that can be true but it largely depends on the resolution of the viewers' screen. 1024x768 is long outdated for screen sizes, most screens these days are larger than 720p (1280x720), even on most tablets. 800px wide takes up 2/3 of that width. Then comes in the other factor, the theme of the website and it's margins/padding. There's a pretty hefty left & right margin on this site that cuts into the content. That's not necessarily a negative since content is better viewed vertically but it does otherwise cut into image width.

So... what's the solution? I don't know. Most of my background is with SMF and PHPBB. There's gotta be something in vBulletin to have larger images attached but the preview is a smaller thumbnail. I know I've seen it on vBulletin forums, where you have a yellow bar that you click on and it gives you the full size. I'm not suggesting full size images, that'd kill loading times and eat up so much data. But it would be pretty nice to have the width cut down no lower than 1280.

I totally get where you're coming from. I've come across a lot of threads with dead links and pictures. It's no good. Personally, I store things in Dropbox and won't delete them because I know other people may depend on them, even if I get out of the Explorer game.

My whole point about storing them off-site is resolution. 800x600 often doesn't give enough detail. Especially with people taking blurry pictures on cell phones. Uploading scanned documents with text and diagrams may be hard to read when scaled down to 800x600.

If there's a way to allow larger embedded images, automatically scaled down to thumbnails and you allow a larger upload/attach size, I'd happily pay for Elite and add all my images in.

800x600 format fits well into forum threads. If you are running a huge pixel count screen on the forum you are among the few. Analytics shows me what size screens people come in on. These days the majority are using mobile browsers and tablets. The #1 screen resolution to view the forum with... 360x640

I really dislike having to click on thumbnails to bring up a larger image. I like being able to see all of the images full size in the thread. 800x600 is large enough to provide good detail. Blurry cell phone shots... take that up with the photog.

BTW, the truth is you are the first person to even bring this up. We have nearly 300,000 members...

I run a 1080p screen, which I was very slow to jump to (got it a couple months back). I wouldn't consider 1080p 'normal' due to the huge number of people using laptops, that's why I suggested 720p.

360x640... that's really surprising. For one, that's ancient, that's like 4 year old smartphone that barely functions to make calls old. My old phone was that way. So painfully slow, I never viewed websites with it. Second, images aside, I'm surprised that the site is even readable. It's just me but I wouldn't consider that small of a screen when designing a site.

When I said thumbnail, I was thinking more like a 800x600 thumbnail. Keep it as it is, if that's working. But, have the ability to click on it and then it shows a 720p or larger version of that image.

But, this is your ship. With the info you have access to, if you find that it's working for you and I'm the odd one out, forget I said anything. I didn't mean to come in and sound like a loudmouth know-it-all, if I did, I apologize :salute:

No worries.

I do agree that the forum software is dated. Making a move to something better isn't an easy proposition for such a large site.

I hear ya, I know I wouldn't want to be in the driver's seat of that job. Large amounts of data aside, the several mods would likely cause trouble too.

Ok sorry we got off subject with the picture thing, all my pics will be coming today or tomorrow morning. :salute:Elite explorer here I come:D

Sorry about that, I got on a rant. Maybe make a new thread for your pictures once you post them? I look forward to seeing them.
