hey guys. i noticed last weekend something rattling underneath what seems to be the drivers side. i looked and could find nothing. its a metal sound. i thought it was that spare tire carrier thing that is just tucked under neath (the cable wont wind up so it just dangles, and i stuck it up underneath something lol) but it dont seem to be that. i just looked a little bit ago and noticed the rear leaf springs my be my problem, the little clamp things that go around the leafs are loose, but not just the drivers side but both sides. should they be loose and rattling? they where just put on a few months ago per my inspection the mechanic called them "leaf spring kits" any other ideas? thanks!

i hope your mechanic is close by and you can make it to him in another vehicle... i would even get it towed to him after i called him and told him what you found...you need to get this fixed before you drive...your vehicle is unsafe to drive...

lol uh, why is this so bad? does it hurt anything? i have driving this on 2 200 mile trips the past couple days and drive 20 miles to work everyday..... this is not good news.

o the mechanic that did it was a private little shop, i normally go to ford garage but the ford garage would not have passed it for inspection lol

lets just say, if it was something that you paid for and they installed it improperly and, you know now it's a problem and are willing to still drive it...??? what ya thinking???
if you fix this yourself you remove the responsibility from the party that you paid for their services...just call your mechanic and tell him what he needs to fix...;)

i will do it tomorow but my problem is i go to work before anyone is open, and get home after everyone is closed. what are the dangers or this? like i said i drive to work 20 miles everyday 55-60mph so if something is wrong where i absolutle shouldnt drive it wont...thanks for the info. o when i call them what should i tell them? what part is that called?

no problem...never mind...i thought you were talking about the whole leaf pack coming apart, lmao...yes they sometimes do rattle but look at them and see if they have opened up a bit...you may try to close them or just put some silicone on the side thats affixed...you had me scared buddy, lol...

haha o ok sorry. ya they move around quite abit ill try to squeeze them back together. thanks alot!

Any other ideas besides silicon? I tried zip ties as suggested by another member, didn't last long... right now I used a c-clamp to compress the spring and I put folded duct tape as a pad in.. still I can hear noise.. probably from the bottom making contact since I couldn't get duct tape in there due to the hole going through..

...Wow, this thread is a couple years old and I had to re-read it toactually see what you meant in your post...

...If you had siliconed the top side and also put duct tape in there, you shouldn't be getting any rattle as it should be overly snug...Does it rattle when you tap it???..Have you jacked that side up to see if you could make it rattle at that clip???

I can hit it and it's quite tight (wow... just wow...) ANYWAYS, I never used silicon. But when I go over bumps. (btw, the duct tape pad is just on the top) I can hear it, granted it's definitely not as bad as when they're completely loose... I can still hear it... it must be the bottom making contact with the spring.
