Name that part! (Dangly tail-pipe thingie)

So, the rubber on this part has become loose, and is sagging to the left. This causes the metal rod that holds the tailpipe to bang against the body, making a terrible clanging sound. I can't find the part anywhere, nor do I have any idea what it might be called.

Any ideas?

It's an exhaust hanger. Go to an exhaust shop and they'll have them, or google "exhaust hanger" and you can find them on ebay, etc...

I had the same issue when I installed my Dynomax exhaust kit. The rubber link slides back and forth (as it has on yours). On mine the hangar would slide out of the link and bang into the frame.

My solution was to take a chunk of rubber tubing like is used for vacuum lines and such, and put that where I wanted it to act as a slide stop. I used a small hose clamp to tighten the rubber down and it works great. If you need to slip it on an assembly that's already together like yours, you can slit the tubing and then use the hose clamp after slipping the tubing on.

Go to your local parts store buy a universal tail pipe hangar for about 8 bucks and install it. You will need 2 bolts 2 nuts 4 washers and 2 lock washers. It bolts directly to the frame so you don't have to worry about it banging against the frame. Then if you have a saws-all if you have one or a hacksaw and a little elbow grease and cut the old hangar off the tail pipe and slide the whole rubber linkage thing off. Sounds like fun to me!

Thanks.. Arco777 - I had considered a hose clamp as a solution... I think I'll try that!

Your situation is the opposite of mine. I'll have to put the clamp on the opposite side, since it's not actually sliding off the link. Most likely I'll put it on the top link to keep it from sliding too far to the right (where the frame is).

Well you get what I meant. I realize the slide directions are different. But the principle works the same. I initially considered just a hose clamp but that wouldn't hold for long and would just end up sliding. Easier and cheaper than having a new hangar welded on, and no drilling.
