Looks kinda like a Joe. Yeah, Joe fits him. I'd name it Joe

:D :D :D

I think its a temp sensor for the overhead console. Thats wat I assumed mine to be.

Would the temperature sensor be on the underbody like that? Seems like if it was there, the temperatures it would get would be hotter than the actual outside temperature

Yes, I thought it was the air temp sensor for the overhead console, but my truck didn't come with one. Did Ford put them in all explorers even if your truck didn't get the console? I did recently install one last week. I just want to know if this is it before trying to splice it in with the new console. The wire colors are blue/yellow and blue/white which match the console colors. I have a Ford CD and it list C194 as being the air temp senosr and in that location, but again, I want to make sure this is the right sensor. Thanks, Chris

OK, I went exploring again and I popped the plastic cover and there is no sensor, it is the connector for the temp sensor though!!! I have the wiring harness already there!!! So now I just need to hook on a new sensor which I'm picking up tomorrow. I do have two new questions. Which would be easier, just cut the connector and run new wires or find the harness under the dash and wire it inside? And does the new sensor clip into that plastic housing in the first pick from above? I'm pretty sure it would. Thanks.......

I would use the existing factory wiring before I started cutting things. It should be easier, that's why it's there, just plug it in. Now if you start using climate controls from different years it might get a little more tricky.

Why does the second pic look completely diff from the first.

Yeah, but where did that bracket with the large hex in it go, and the other connection behind it is now white, it was black.

It does look like its in a different place now....i'm confused

The dust cover is what is fastend to the bracket(rad support, I think), when you remove the dust cover it stays, so the connector and cable can be moved or fall's down.

It look's like he moved it to the other side of the bumper horn..

Yes, I pulled the connector out of the cover. The second pic is from the top and the flash reflects off the dirt. The first was from the side. The console is from a 98 and the senosr I bought is for 98+ models. Where would I find the factory harness to tap into under the dash? Thanks....

Glad you found an existing connector under there! I had the connector on mine too......minus the dust cover! I looked ALL OVER inside the truck and never could find out where the sensor wires went!!! I hope you can find them...but after a couple days searching and a real sore back...I just cut off the sensor plug and wired my own wires to the overhead console. Nice job anyhow...hope it all goes together fast and perfect.
Ken
Here's a quick picture of an actual temp sensor...

I followed the connector wires to the black box that goes through the fire wall by the power distribution box. From the inside of the truck, it's under the dash and above the parking brake and has a pull handle on it. I tapped the blue/white and blue/yellow sensor wires and a grey/black VSS wire from the harness coming in through that box. I'll get pics in the morning. I still don't understand why my X had the sensor cover and wiring harness already there even though it didn't come with the console from the factory. I guess I got very lucky:D
