NC, outer banks, Late June & Late July

meeting at Cape Hatteras NC late june, and again in late july, nothing big or centrally organized really, just going down there and already planned to meet some other guys, so anyone is invited

Hum, sounds like a plan. I live about 4hrs from there and would be interested in wheeling in OBX. My wife has some friends from work who have houses there, so I'll have to check if one of them might be available.

Was there going to be any fishing done during this trip?

Ive driven the northern beaches, Corova and north. How does the Hatteras, Oregon inlet area compare- I assume thats where you will be.

Its fun driving the sand Matt, just take some air out of your tires- a must do.

Oregon inlet has sand packed down pretty hard, Cape Hatteras to "The Point" has farely soft sand, but no foot traffic beach go'ers to worry bout. Hatteras is driven so much though, that you get the 8" deep ruts that bounce up and down, so sometimes is easier to plow your own trail through the soft sand. people are pretty decent about letting you get by. Was down in October, and managed to land a 25lb red drum from the surf!

I'll be there with the family that same week. We'll be at the northern end of things (Whalehead/Corolla area). I'll have to confirm the location with my wife - we looked at so many houses that I can't remember which one we settled on! Maybe we can get together for some wheelin' during that time. I'll be taking the Explorer, so let me know...

is it required to have a beach access pass? if so how much and where do I get one? I live in New Bern and that is just an hour or two away, oh ya that 2hr long ferry ride but I will come up if i'm not in southern california,

You don't need a pass or anything you just drive right up the ramp over the dunes

hmmm, might take ya up on that, my grandparents have a beach house in Southern Shores, so theres a good ill been down there for a week or two this summer.

I'll be down in The Banks a lot this summer. Its only 2.5 hours from my house to Hatteras Village, so I can make a lot of day trips down there. I'll also be staying in South Nags Head (mile post 19) the last week of July into the first week of August. Let me know if anybody wants to do a run somwhere around then. Paul - school forces change to or vac.

I havent kept up with this thread, but we are staying in Southern Shores, almost to Duck. I wrote earlier we would be there the last week in Aug, but Paul it is now going to be the week before , the week of the 17th. of Aug. The schools here are starting aweek earlier this year- the teachers get 2 more professional days!!- Im ticked cause the house is costing almost 1000 more for the earlier week. My son is starting Kindergarten and we want to be here for his first day.

I will be heading up to Corova sometime during the week to hang out on the sand. If anyones around and wants to hit Hatteras I may be able to work something out with the family to head down.
If anyone else is going to be there that week let me know.

I've been off the board for awhile, so I haven't been keeping up either. Sorry we'll miss you - the cheaper rates are part of the reason we chose the week we did and it isn't a problem for school's around here (Kings Dominion effect).

Hope you enjoy your vacation. I may have to do some explorin' in some of these areas everyone is talking about...
