need a tighter ride...Help

Ok, now i need some opinions. Im looking to improve my suspension. Not so much for off roading, but more for onroad performance. I want to make it tighter on turns, sway less, And have an all together better ride (without really dropping it). I have herd great reviews about the edlebrock IAS shock so i plan to put those on. If you all can give your opinion on what to do it would be much appreciated. I also will eventually put new rims and tires on the X, I was planning on putting 265/70 16's on it as i figured that with the lower profile and overall wider tire would improve handling as well, without compromising the overall size coming just short of a 31x10.5 tire (30.6 to be excact). Then i was told 31x10.5 on a 15 inch would be just as stable. What do you all think???
Hope there is enough information there, if not let me know.. thanks

Sounds like you're on the right path with the tires and shocks.
I would add to that a poly bushing set for your front sway bar.

just for the front sway bar?.. by tightening that up will that cause premature wear on other parts? also where would you recomend buying it, as i am limited to the internet, not really any 4x4 shops around here that i know of.

Would this be what you are referring to? sway bar kit

Search "urethane bushings" for more info. I used Energy Suspension and there is a huge improvement.

I have the Edelbrocks, which are good, but there have been concerns by others about oil leakage. You could save big bucks by just going with any firm shock.

Dollar for dollar, the bushings made way more of a difference than the shocks.

so what shock are you recomending?

If you were to go to explorerexpress.com what you you be ordering from them, i got alittle confused when i looked for the poly bushings and there were 2 listings for them one was 17 the other was 35. (assuming im looking at the right ones, radius arm bushings)

Chucky check this out:

35 are front, 17 are rear. If you get the Energy suspension kit, they give you end link bushings AND sway bar bushings. They fit perfectly.

Regards to shocks: I like my Edelbrocks, but considering I spent 8 times as much money on them as I spent on the urethane bushings, they are not 8 times as effective. I recommend them, they are very good, but don't expect miracles. If I had to do it again, I would consider getting any low buck firm shock, or maybe the Bilstiens.

my .02

Monroe Reflex shocks. Not very expensive and the best handling mod I have made to my truck.
The 31's will also stiffen the ride due to stiffer sidewalls, assuming they are all terrain tires. It'll feel like it handles a lot better, but don't forget you just lifted it by getting larger than stock tires which hurts the handling.
The 265/70/16's will actually handle better though (assuming they are also all terrains) for a couple of reasons. You won't be lifting it as quite as much and it will be 1" lower profile tire due to the larger rim.

Ok, so where i stand now is the monroe reflex shocks with the energy suspension kit, with end link bushings, sway bar bushings and a sway bar.

If i go with this setup from explorerexpress.com what else would i need from them?

ChuckyD, you don't need to replace your sway bar, just the bushings on it. You can if you really want, but no one in this thread is recommending a new bar, just bushings. It's $35, vs. $280.!

O, im sorry, i misunderstood, i was under the impression by some other threads that j. kennedy referred me to that it would be good idea to get a larger sway bar, hey sounds good to me...cheaper.

Thank you all, for your help, I have ordered my Poly bushings. I should have them by friday. I have also decided to purchase the Monroe reflex shocks. From researching the board edlebrock IAS's have some issues that i dont feel like dealing with.

Objections regarding my choice of shocks?

My opinion, not the top of the line, but a good shock for the price, and better than stock! In other words, good choice.

What shock would you have chosen?... keep in mind im trying not to completely destroy my ride quality.
