Need exhaust recommendation on blown 99 5L

I am trying to figure out what cat back to install on my 99 Mountaineer that now has a Powerdyne residing under the hood.

I oviously need a more free flowing exhaust, but want one with a nice mellow tone that is not to overbearing on long trips as this is our tow vehicle.

I would like to go stainless if possible and the Gibson looks appealing but is only 2.5"...DO I REALLY need to go larger than 2.5"? I also do not want to lose low end torque going to big...

Boosted = get yourself the Torque Monster headers, and run a BIG exhaust all the way out, 3.5"??? true duals?

yes you need larger than 2.5. You need at LEAST 3" if not 3.5 or 2.5 duals. I ran 2.5 true duals on my truck with fms headers mainly because I plan on getting blown (haha). The mac setup is nice that you can get from explorer express.

I inquired about the MAC exhaust from EE, and have been pondering that one but it is not available in stainless and wasn't sure if it would be too loud.

The Mac is going to be one of the loudest, as will Flowmasters.
Choose your mufflers for sound, the performance of good aftermarket brands is similar.

The larger you go with the tailpipes, the louder it will be. A single 2.5" tailpipe should be a close match for a moderate 302 like yours. I am planning for a larger, higher boosted 302, and I will make twin 2.25" tailpipes(bigger than a 3"pipe).

For towing, don't tow in high gear(uphill, over 1/2 throttle). You could improve high gear quite a bit(strength) by installing "A" overdrive servo parts. You should consider a kit for your transmission, to help reliability and strength. The valve body has to come off to add a kit, or the OD servo parts.
The three "A" servo parts(from a Supercoupe) should be about $50(discounted) at Ford. Good luck,

Going to go with the Gibson, called Ford Racing today and the tech said that 2.5" is more than enough on my SC'd Mounty. (Figure Ford racing would the ones to know)
The Gibson comes in stainless and is quieter which would make the long trips more tolerable.

Performance Products has the Gibson priced at $387, anyone know of somewhere reputable and less expensive? EE does not carry them anymore.

Why not just buy the mufflers and have a good exhaust shop do the rest for you? I bet it'd be cheaper. IMO, a Ford 5.0 should never be mated to any aftermarket exhaust except a Flowmaster. Beautiful, beautiful music those two make together. And if you get the new Super 40 series, you get that same exterior sound with less interior resonance, at least from what I've heard.
