I have had good success with the Garmin's. I have the 3+ and like it a lot. The 3+ models are old and I think they have transitioned to the " GPS 5" model. We bought one at work to take overseas. The nice thing about the "5" is that it has more storage memory that allows you to download map data that covers sections of the world in chunks. I think I loaded 9 tiles (3x3) of data where each tile was about 2.5 degrees x 2.5 degrees. the world map data comes on a CD you have to buy seperately. I also know folks who have used one of the Etrex models that will also download map data, but you can't hook it up to and external antenna. If I had the money I would get the 5. With the Map data cd, you can download all the data back into your computer and map it graphically. It is fairly easy to do it. I have also had the unit from work linked up to a laptop running some tracking software and getting real-time tracking as I drove around.
