Need help removing CV joint cup from Differential

How do I remove the CV joint cup from the differential? I cannot get it out. Do I need a ball joint fork? Or can I just keep hammering it to remove it?

There is a special tool that lets you pry it out, but since you don't have one, just take a 1x1 piece of wood about a foot long and brace that against the back of the cup as horizontal as possible. Then get a 2lb mini sledge and give the wood a few good hits. CV should pop right out of the diff.
