Hey all, this is my first time posting. I just bought a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport from my brother and brought it home yesterday. Everything was fine until today when the driver's side door lock will not work. I can open the door from the inside, at which time the door unlocks, but the keyless entry and the key will not unlock the door. I've looked through several topics on here about this and I have yet to take the door panel off to try to fix the problem. The only thing I have done to the vehicle was replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket CD player, does anyone know if the door lock problem could be related to this?

probably not. You will need to take the door panel off and test the actuator, switch, and wires.

Sounds like the vertical linkage rod has come disconnected. Should be easy enough to fix once you have the inside door panel off, and you've got a working mirror image on the other side of the X for comparison.

Our 2nd gen Explorers have a lot of issues with the doors, door handles, locks etc. I'm dealing with a "limp handle" right now and a driver's door actuator that's dangling and opens my door with the remove 2 times in 10. I have an assortment of zip ties dealing with other ailments.

Lots of threads on the archives dealing with these problems. Best bet is to use one or both of the search tools to find those threads. That's how I've solved my problems to date and I know what's involved with fixing the problems I'm dealing with now. The site has been in existence for a long time and the 2nd generation ended in 2001, so LOTS of good info in the archives.

Welcome to the best Expolder resource on the planet. Despite all these picky little things that can and go wrong with our trucks, I love the beast. :)

I have a 2000 explorer sport with a similar problem. Could be either the actuator or the door latch mechanism itself. If your so inclined, go to ebay and look for ford explorer service manuals. You can purchase and download a service manual relatively inexpensively. I got one the other day for 5 bucks and while I was initially skeptical, it's pretty comprehensive and professional. I recommend it if you want to attempt the work or do other jobs. Plus it give torque specs.
