I was planning on installing my new 8.8 gears with the help of an experienced mechanic friend however he is busy for the next few months and I want them installed soon. This is my first gear install and I want to learn how to setup up and install gears instead of paying some shop to do it. I have had the gears, install kit, and cross pin for three weeks now.

Currently I am in Flagstaff, Is there anyone experienced with setting up gears in Arizona or near by who would be willing to give me a hand? I have access to most tools and a place to work. I thought about tackling it myself but much rather have the help of someone who knows what they are doing :D . I would like to do it in Flag because 35"s and 3.73 don’t do so well traveling ;) .

Let me know if you can help. I would love to get it done in the next week or two. I am willing to compensate for gas money, lunch, or what not. Most importantly I want to learn how to do it from one explorerer to another.

well, there is some places in norther Arizona but I really wanted to learn how or at least help out. I also wanted to save some dough doing it myself... maybe.
Thanks for the advise/ideas so far.

look in the forums for the arizona meet and greet...i am really surprised no one has chimed in yet but i know they will...if you look at that thread it will give you an idea who is around close to you and they may be of better help, good luck...:D

Make some offers!!! :D Im off from work thurs and fri!

Alright, I am doing it Tues 7/17. My dad and I are doing it but I would still really like the assistance of someone experienced.

make an offer! I can pay for your gas, food and time!!! I dont want to pay tons for a shop!!! lol I want to do it myself

ok, you never said which gears you are putting in so i am guessing here....4.10 or 4.56 gears in the rear??? it's a good thing to do during the week as you can get parts...you should start looking now to find a way to get your bearings off and new ones pressed on....also, you might want to lookup member 410fortune as he knows alot of people in the ariz. area and he is usually on the boards daily, he could tell you step by step or will know the closest knowledgable person to you...i am hoping you already have feeler guages and have all your torque settings ready???...;)

I just saw this thread. Unfortunately the only gears I've ever setup were 20+ years ago in automotive school. I haven't tried since. Besides the guys at FST, I don't know anyone in Phoenix that has setup their own gears.
