ok... i just tried to post this thread but it didnt work so ill try again.. but i'm looking to add some horsepower to my 99 4.0 sohc sport for not very expensive if possible. but i am looking for about 30-50 more horsepower and significant torque too... any suggestions?? i've been reading and it doesnt seem that the cold air intake and throttle body spacer have been doing too much for other people and those were what i was looking at most to buy.. is there anything else i can do or does anyone know if the TBS and CAI are worth the money?

That's a lot of hp and torque for simple bolt ons. A proven CAI (if there is one), a set of headers, and a tune will probably net the best results for you. But I'm not sure they will get you that kind of results. If you really want power, save your pennies and get a turbo or supercharger.

headers and intake and supercharger and sct tune and etc

nitrous

thanks for the ideas! does anyone know where i can get a supercharger for a decent price? and if i get a supercharger or turbo do i have to build the engine up? this is my primary car so i dont want it to be out of commission for more than a couple days or so.. and does anyone know which headers would be best? and i'm lookin for true horsepower.. not nos.. haha thanks for the suggestion tho

amc how much r u looking to spend.

cause there is one supercharger i wanna get for my sport is this brand

SUPERCHARGER 97-01 Explorer Sport X-Charger 4.0 SOHC with tuner

that would fit ur sport as well do you want it with the tuner or without.

If you get the one with tuner thats the one i wanna get is $4,395.95

and without the tuner its $4,195.95

i went on www.explorerexpress.com

with what you want (torque and a little more hp) i would say M90 blower, headers and exhaust...that way your truck woulnt be down for long. A turbo kit would be a step better but the cost can be higher and your truck would be down for a while while a custom kit would have to be built.

Isnt the M90 chager the stock grand prix supercharger? Is it basically a bolt on thing or do you have to have a custom intake plate made to hold the supercharger? Maybe theres already a thread for this?

well if u want to spend the money than the X-Charger from explorerexpress is the way to go. if ur more on the economical side of it go with a CAI for the throttle response the headers and a tuner and custom tune from james henson at hensonperformance.com. he can hook u up with sn SCT X3 programmer and 3 custom tunes for 389 dollars plus tax. its a great deal and he really knows what hes doing

You could sell it and buy one with a V8  Or V8 swap it. the 5.0 has a few more ponies and 50 more ft/lbs at the same RPMs (torque is what you actually want). Or lower gears (more torque at the wheels) or a manual tranny swap (less power loss, more to the wheels).

which tuner should i get? there are alot... haha and i dont see any for the explorer but im sure im just overlooking it.

the X3 on there doesnt list the explorer but he installs custom tunes so it doesnt matter which one u have. Call james his number is (205) 531-0598 and the site is www.hensonperformance.com. Call him up let him know what it is ur looking for or ask for his oppinion (trust me he's there to help). He will most likely ask for which tunes u want meaning do u want street/racing or towing and which octanes you want set for them (personally i got 3 street/racing tunes 1 for each octane at the pump since the programmer comes with 3), he will ask what mods you have done to it already so he knows what extra to put into the tune, and then he will ask you your computer calibration code. Once everything is set up all u will have to do is order it from the site and list all the things asked in the special conditions box. Its a pretty simple process and well worth the investment i just programmed mine for the first time yesterday and i love it. Im sure u will too.

i'm now thinking about the eaton m90 supercharger on my car just because it doesnt look like i need to build my engine up at all to do it and it is pretty cheap... and does anyone know if i can put it on a completely stock engine without messing it up? i plan on building the engine up in the future but i'm just lookin for some quick power soon. is all i will need to buy the kit from R.P. Caster http://candmnovelties.com/pages/page3.htm or should i buy anything else? thank you for your help

im new to this site,,, but does anyone know any thang about the GForce ecu chip, does it really give 60 hp,,,

If it comes with NOS, blower or hair dryer...
