I am planning on changing out my sector shaft seal today, but I have never removed a pitman arm before. My haynes manual just says to take out the cotter pin, remove the nut and attach the puller, but it says nothing about removing the cotter pin and nut where the arm attaches to the steering linkage. Do I leave that end of the pitman arm connected and just try and remove it from only the sector shaft?

....Disconnect it as at both ends...You can use a pickle fork to remove the pitman arm or, you can go to a parts store with a loaner program and either buy or rent one of these...( I"m not sure of the exact size..)

I went to autozone and did the rent a tool program. FREE!!
also,,, I had a lot of trouble getting the seal out after everything was removed. after a hour of scratching at it,,,, I started the motor and turned the steering wheel all the way one way (dead headed the pump) and it blew the seal out! YEP made some mess,, but it was out!

Never said i was smart, not even saying it was the correct way. but it worked:rolleyes:
