need help with rear locker

I know people who have electric lockers, they never work right on the trail. Constant electrical probs.

what have you heard about the ECTED jr? I haven't done any searches on it yet, but I'm about to.

What kind of electrical probs svande?
 












I have only heard this so it is not first hand, but basiclly because the locker is magnetic clutches and under heavy load they will slip this is from a full size bronco. and a bronco2 that I go wheeling with some people actual saw it slipping on a hard surface hill climb and they thought it was not engaged and later the driver said it was on.
 






Same here, I saw a guy in an XJ that had the locker "on", but both tires were not turning going up some steep stuff.
 






That sucks, I just read a lot about the Eaton E-locker and it looks like a much better diff. Have you guys heard anything about this one?

Also guys, if I did the brown wire mod and put a lockright in the front it would only engage when I gave power to the front end right, other than that it would stay open? I don't mind clicks very much, just tire wear. This thread and others have been very useful to me lately b/c I'm def getting rear locker soon and maybe front as well if the cheap lockright works like I think it does. Thanks.

jr, does my little lockright theory make sense or is it usually locked on street?
 






I don't pay much attention to 2nd generation stuff, but if I remember right if you do the brown wire mod you can run a automatic locker in the front. someone will chime in shortly if I am wrong.

do you have an Auto or 5 speed though? This seems to be making a difference to some's results cause Doug and RockRanger have said they hated having an autolocker compared to a spool or welded diff and they had 5 speeds, yet I've seen many people vouching for them like you (such as Johnstone).... Although then again BenS contrdicts everything! :D
 






i have auto, i think i will get a lock right, how does that handle on the street?
 












i have the lock rite in my 8.8 but i also have the manual tranny. thought it sucked bad at first. the loud banging and popping happened all the time. after a while i got it down pretty damn good. no more banging and popping. jus have to work the clutch right. as far as handling it jus takes a little getting used to. but once u get it down its no biggie. its chewing my tires up enough as it is. so i think a spool would eat'em up way quick.

Mine is awesome, i have never had it slip once, and i beat on my truck.

I don't hate my Lockright, It just has alot of quirks on the road that take some getting used too. I think with the way the lock right acts a spool would actually be more steetable than the lockright. On the flip side I just installed a no-slip up front and while driving on the street I don't even know it's there.
 






Why would you notice it on the street anyway? Wouldn't you have to have it in 4wd to have it work?

The general consensus seems to be that the No-slip is much more street friendly, which is it's main attraction, as stated by Powertrax.

I have the PT no slip in my 4X2, is a great item, but it do's take some getting used to on dry pavment and loose gravel
 






Loose gravel? Seems like gravel would allow it to slip more, unlike cornering on the street, or things like that.

My Driveway is gravel, when backing out of the garage at slow speed, in a circle, the inner tire will slip, if I was able to go WOT out of the garage, both rears will lock up but thats not an option in 50 feet.
With the powertrax you need a certain amount of TQ applied befor both axles engage and drive
