So do you love it or hate it? Good or Bad? I need opinions. Daily driving? I've got to rebuild my rear diff and I'll be sure to not put my auburn back in there!

Let me know! Thanks!

Do you already have a EZ locker?

Nope. I'm looking at variable locker options. I do have an older style 8.8 ARB. However, it needs a rebuild.

I got talked out of installing mine by mechanic. He said he pulls more out than he installs. I went with a full time detroit. But I cant say I've read anything bad about them on this site.

Brett,
According to PowerTrax's web site, the EZ Locker and the LockRite are essentially the same unit just different brand names for different markets. After reading a lot of the locker threads, I'm finding some members have issues with the LockRite (EZ Locker) but the NoSpin unit (which seems to be closer to the "full time detroit" that PV went with) seems to have a better rep for ease of install and on-trail functionality. I'm leaning towards the NoSpin.

But, I'm curious, is it that expensive to rebuild your ARB that's you'd price other units?

Good Luck - Dave.

Dave,

I believe Brett's issue is he doesnt want the open diff in the rear for daily driving, not the cost of the ARB refresh.

i have mine and it works great... and i am 2wd. only thing is if u are driving around your neighborhood with the windows down, u can hear click click click when u turn the corner.

No, what I have in there no is an Auburn. I have an old style, ie-1st revision- 8.8 ARB on the shelf. The auburn isn't really any better than the factory l/s. However, the early arb's are prone to failure - if you abuse them.

So, what I'm going to do is put the arb in there. Reseal the arb, and put a TA cover on.

My good buddy Eric, at Wild West Offroad in Englewood CO - 303-806-8933 - says the EZ lockers are a little harsh on the street, full detroits are really harsh, and the ARB is the better choice. So I'll compromise having open diffs on the street for locked front and rear on the trail....

good choice! At least you know locking the rear is always just a couple of buttons away...

Brett,
Isn't ANYTHING prone to failure, if you abuse it? :)

I agree with Jaime, I think you made the right choice, too. Funny, I drove a Shelby Mustang around on the street for a while. It had a Detroit Locker (w/3.89 gears) and I never thought it was harsh (aside from a noise that sounded like a bowling bowl rolling around in the trunk).
:burnout:

Dave.
