i am building a rock crawler. its been my dream for a while. im putting a carburated v8 in my sport trac. i used the original starter wires to hook up to my new starter. when i put a battery in it everything worked except when i turn the key to the "start" position, i have no power to the starter wire. i have done some research on the pats system and found no answers. i really would like to keep from putting a push button start on it. (keep it stock looking)

being that i removed the motor and wiring harness on it and the ecu does the transponder module recieve a signal from the main ECU on the firewall which would prevent it to give power to the starter wire? is there a way to bypass the transponder module while keeping all this stock "turn key" style? or are there a couple wires i could just ground out or connect together to make this work correctly?

any help would be appreciated

thanks turdle. after reading through the second link you posted it makes me think that since the stock transmission is removed that it may not be reading that it is in park. would it read the "park" or "neutral" saftey switch through the shift linkage on the tranny or out of the actual shifter lever on the steering column?

You need to connect the signal and return wire for pats that ran toward the pcm I bet. That's what I did to run a 97 harness in an 01 ranger.

would you by chance have a diagram or at least some colors i can look for to make this happen? i read elsewhere something about doing that but i dont wanna just start cutting and connecting wires. thank you. its good to know that somebody has done what im trying to do:thumbsup:
