Hey I just got a 2000 Explorer XLT with the 5.0 V8. The dealer told me that it was a custom order from the St. Louis Assembly Plant. The Explorer was either a fire chiefs, or police immediate response vehicle. The dealer said that it may have a different computer chip. If any of you guys know if there is a different chip for theses type of vehicle please let me know.
Thanx Ryan

Sounds like a load to me. Try going 110+ mph. If you can, maybe they just removed the speed limiter? Can't think of what else they would change for a Police Explorer.

bigger/better brakes?

yes therer is no speed limiter

I have had the speedometer barred at around 4700 rpm and I’m sure the 5.0 puts out more than 215 horse because I have driven other explorers with the same engine. I’m trying to see if there is a different chip in it because I am interested in putting in an aftermarket one but I don’t want to get an aftermarket chip that puts out less power if I have a ford hypro chip in it.

Im not sure

TJM623 I’m not sure what’s stock on the explorer but the front and rear breaks have 4 calipers.

Does Any one know if there is a hypro chip for the explorer that ford offers custom?

It is possible that the computer had been reflashed with a different tune.

I'll bet is is not an actual, physical CHIP, but like Aldive is saying the program has been changed.

Can you exceed 98 mph? (not that I am advocating doing so) do you have a rev limiter?
Can you rev in park over 3000 RPMs
perhaps you have been re-programmed, is really no way to tell

No rev or speed limiter

There is no rev or speed limiter on the explorer that I know if the chip has been reprogrammed what do you think the horsepower and torque would be?
It has amazing towing power hauling a 6,000 pound boat. Or is that just normal?
Seems that there is no strain on the 302. It can move the boat at an idle on relatively flat areas. and i did cheak to see if it had a high idle but is is also normal.

ask crankcase, he'll tell you first hand
