1993 Ford Explorer XLT
So my Ex is badly in need of new Ball joints. So before I embark on this fun job I have a question. I have always wanted to change the way the brake calipers mount to the truck. I really do not like the slide pin set up that stock Explorers have. I would like to change them over to a simple bolt on caliper set up. So seeings as how I'm going to be taking the Steering knuckles off anyways, it seems like that would be the perfect time to do this. So my question is, is there any other spindle off any other truck that will make this possible with little modification. Id like to just pull these off and throw a replacement deal in there. Ive heard people talk about Ranger spindles but all the ones Ive seen look like mine. If anyone has any info please let me know. I plan on doing ball joints before the second week of December. Oh and the details of my truck are as follows. 1993 Ford Explorer XLT no lift or custom suspension set up with 4 wheel ABS. Thanks guys you've all saved me a ton of money and bestowed plenty of wisdom on me so far, just need a little more.

You're looking for '95-97 Ranger spindles.

ok thanks, and those have bolt on calipers and not the slide pin things right?

Yup.

yup, you're right, just checked them out and that's exactly what I wanted. Thanks man. Off to the bone yard tomorrow to find a couple.

You should Do A How I did my Swap ! and kind of make a How to out of it !

Ok. Well probobly Friday of this weekend i will go to the bone yard with some micrometers and double check to make sure it will fit but yes if i do it ill make sure to take pictures and write up a how to. Maybe itll be a "sticky"

They are a direct swap. There's no need to bring a caliper and take measurements. Its been done hundreds of times. The only difference between 91-94 beams and 95-97 Ranger beams is an adjustable steering stop.

Oh ok, cool because I hate measuring stuff like that. So I can adjust the stops on the steering then?
