Need Transmission help please!!!!!!!

I recently put another transmission into my 92 explorer and now when i start it up and put in gear it does not engage whatsoever. What could this be. This may be a stupid question but if the vacuum line is not hooked up would that cause it to not engage or is it a bigger problem.

Did you check your fluid level?

Ok here is the thing i know that there is not enough fluid in it but the problem is the pan is over full already with only 5 quarts in it the fluid dosent seem to be pumping through the unit
