- 2001 Explorer XLT
Hello. I have a 2001 Explorer XLT. There is no factory subwoofer and I am pretty sure that I have the Premium speakers. I currently have the CD/Tapedeck combo head unit. I am replacing the head unit and adding two 10" subs, with their own amplifier. Everyone is telling me that there is a factory amplifier in the vehicle somewhere that is currently powering the factory speakers and that I have to bypass it if I am going to modify my stereo system. Is this true and can anyone tell my why I need to bypass the factory amp? What do I need to do to bypass the amp if it is in fact necessary? Any info would be great. Thanks.
