1999 Ranger XLT
Hey guys... Good to meet all of you.... I just recently bought a ranger to drive and keep the miles off my stang but I am looking to do a little something to the ranger too...

Id like to lift it up a little bit and I was thinking just a 3'',2'' body lift and I found some on ebay from $150 to $430... just looking for some insight on what is good and if the cheap kits will give me trouble... and maybe a link to a site that walks through the procedure???

I am an ex ford tech so it is no problem working on it and whatnot.... just would like to see what im getting into before i start.... and the odds and ends of lifting like what will start to wear, make noise, etc.

I appreciate the help! Awesome board!!

Dave

Welcome!!!

I always try to suggest a suspension lift if you are trying to gain height, as it will allow for greater articulation and wheel travel along with giving it that "off road" look.

you can find rough country lift kits from $450 for a 4" lift, which is what i used to get my inital 4" on my lift. comes with all bracketry, shocks, and nuts and bolts. I dont know how easy it will be on the newer rangers, but on my 91, it ended up taking a total of 9 hours as we had to get a few riveted brackets off...which were a big pain in the ass. couldnt drill through the hardened steel, so we ended up using an air hammer and a sawsall.

if your ranger is a 99 model u have the torsion bar setup so the 97 down ranger lifts won't work. meaning the cheapest suspension lift will easily be a grand. with that being said do a 3" body lift and a 2" torsion twist up front and a block or add-a-leaf in the rear and right there u have 5" of lift to easily fit 33's. for hardly any money. but if u got the money a suspension lift is nice... so however u want to do it. but your about 2 yrs too late for the more affordable ranger suspension lifts for the ttb

um not all 98+ rangers have torsion bars, is this truck 2wd or 4x4? Kinda important info for lifting :)

2wd = spindles
4wd = bodylift or shell out $1500 for an overpriced no good drop bracket lift kit.

It's just a 2wd. Id like to lift it a little for the look and go with some bigger tires... I live in SOUTH LOUISIANA so when the next big 'cane comes i dont wanna have to wait 2 days with no power before i can leave cause the stang wont make it thru 2ft flood water in the only way out the city... whew dont even wanna think about that........... thanks for the intel guys! but yeah its just a 99 xlt supercab 2wd 3.0.

sorry i just assumed it was 4wd... so if it doesn't have torsion bars what does it have? coils? i've been under the impression that 98+ rangers went to the torsion bar setup like the explorers. learn something new everyday :)
