Hello everyone. I'm a Jeeper but I also love and respect Explorers.

Now onto the question...

My friend has a '96 4x4 (XLT trim I believe) with a very saggy rear end and we are going to convert it to Spring Over Axle to get rid of the sag and make up for the lost ride height.

Has anyone done this before? He has the 8.8 rear of course and I figured the most we would need for this besides tools is larger U-bolts, am I correct? And if so could someone direct me where to get these U-bolts?

Thanks,
Sam

My bad for posting it in the incorrect section. I've known this site for years and it is a great site!

Now if I can just get some answers.:D

A spring over in the rear will net 5.5" lift over were it is now. Thats ALOT. :) Honestly, id go with a set of add-a-leaves first and see if that doesnt make it level.

5.5"? That is alot. But you need to keep in mind that the rear of his Explorer is sagging so badly that it is just a mere few inches from the bumpstops. Maybe I should tell him to just get some AAL's for now. The amount of lift he would get would be great but evening out that stupid IFS front end would be a PITA.

If the springs are sagging that bad I wonder if the SOA will accelerate the sag.

Sounds like his best bet would be some new springs, or at least some less worn leafs from a junk yard.

Just remember that if you go with the used ones that swaping sides will help prevent the notorious gangsta lean.

I would first slap a set of shackles on it. Would be the easiest way. Different springs is the best answer.

Could you guys direct me towards some quality shackles?
