New HU will not turn on unless i put my headlights on

I installed a new HU in my 99 xlt. and it will not work unless i have my headlights on.

can someone help me out

definitely did it wrong,

best way is to get the harness from a store like best buy and wire it all up before you put it in,

I have the harness all wired up matching all the colors.

k, that may be where you went wrong, sometimes the colors are wrong, it should say on the wire for the harness what goes to it,,
it's usually printed on the wires,

i used that same harness on my 99 worked perfect,

Sounds to me like you have some pins switched in one of your harnesses. If it is only coming on while your headlights are on; that says to me your illumination wire and your switched 12v positive are switched/crossed. Hope this helps.

he didn't answer me , so i must have called it, matching wire colors never works
