New Idea For LED Signal Mirrors On Explorer

I did not like going with the turn signal arrows on the mirrors or buying new mirrors for my 98 Explorer so I decided to approach the side mirror turn signal dilemma form a different angle. And this is what I came up with.....

First I want to give thanks to a few people who made this project possible,

To BigRondo, for the fantastic detailed inst on the installation of signal mirrors,

To Combat, who did this to his motorcycle and got my gears turning on how can I do this to my truck,

I purchased the LED's, resistors from Ebay and solder it all together and used shrink tubing for a better finish.

I used the dent puller to hold the mirror evenly and it gave me a handle to help me pull the mirror without bending or cracking it.

I then proceeded to take everything apart, removed the mirror housing from the doors, snaked the wires through the mirror housing into the doors.

I then drilled the hole for the LED's on the side of the mirror housing, this was the point of no return, I had made a hole on the side of my mirrors!!!.

I then installed the LED to the mirror housing and I used black silicon from the inside of the mirror housing to seal it and secure it in place. Mirrors where installed back on the doors and the wiring was snake through the doors and into the cab, and connected to the turn signal wires in the wire harness.

and this is how it looks when I was done,

Hey ama4ace, I wish I could but it's not my line of work. I did my truck only because I did not trust anyone else to be as careful as I am and if I made a mistake I would only blame myself. It's really not that complicated, just take your time, follow the instructions from BigRondo,
the installation of signal mirrors,

I have already done the hard work of determining what to use and you should be good.

Hey Dennis thanks for posting the exact parts you used that for me was the hardest part. Now that I know what to get exactly I will
Be doing this in the spring. I will just try to get white LED's since all my lights have been converted to white. I shouldn't have a problem the instructions are neatly written and your pics help alot. I
appreciate it!

Glad to be of help, good luck.
Dennis

Thank you for this. This page will be bookmarked for a future project.

It works out really nice, just take your time.
You are welcome.

Most likely yes. Just check with your state laws. The front and sides are typically amber to the front and sides and you should be ok.

Not sure about where you are from, But I do know that in Oklahoma it is illegal to have white, blue, or red flashing lights on a vehicle
