Does anyone know of a way to replace the leather wrap on the steering wheel of a '94 XLT? My is very cracked and warn and has a hole in the top of it. I currently have an in the For Sale, Trade, Wanted section of the board, but it there is a way to repair or replace the leather myself I want to do that. So, if any of you fellow Explorer owners have done this before please email or post any suggestions that you might have.

Thanks in advance.

I'd reccomend seeing what a new wheel would cost you, I replaced mine for about $130 and it looks like new. I got it from Ford Parts Network, just click the link at the top of the site or email Torrie directly at torrie@fordpartsnetwork.com

Believe it or not, I found a leather one at Wal-Mart (Yes, Wal-Mart) that fit my '92 steering wheel exactly. It took about 2 hours to lace it on since all the stitching is fairly fine and you have to stretch it a little to get the seam closed. It cost about $15.00 and it lasted me about 6 years before the stitching finally gave out. I tried to put the same thing on my '01, but Ford made the rim thicker and it won't fit!!:(

Jeff,

You may have to search some, but you can get a leather cover for the fatter steering wheel. I bought mine at Pep Boys if I remember correctly. The package was marked for wheels with air bags. It's a pain in the rear to sew on, but the results are worth it.
