Hi all,

THis is my first post, and yes I lurked and read for about a week b4 posting! I just bought a 94 xlt 4x4 with 122k on the odometer for use as a third vehicle, fishin/camping rig. Ive already replaced the hubs with Warn manuals, had the tranny flushed and filled, new serp belt and amgetting ready to change the oil and do a tune up. Can you guys answer the following

1. How can I tell what gearing, posi/limited slip etc is on the Ex? By vin or call ford or by any web site?

2. I am getting about 13MPG!

3. The engine rattles if I accelerate rapidly, but not at idle or at highway speed.

THanks!

RIkki

I had that rattle on my 93 when I would hit the gas hard. Sounded like it was coming from under the hood right in front of the driver. I didn't have it long enough to bother checking out what it was. I know that doesn't answer your question, sorry.

The rattle you hear may be pinging from the timing advance. Try disconnecting your battery for about 20 minutes and then reconnecting it. This will reset the computer. The Explorer computer adjusts itself to your driving habits(primarily how heavy a foot you have :D) , and your habits may be considerably different than the previous owners. By resetting the computer, it will more quickly adjust the timing curve to your style of driving.

Hey Aldive tell him where to find his axle code!!!

Okay I'll do it... Its on the sticker on your drivers door...

Since no one else has done it yet I will be the first... Welcome to the board!!!

Oooops... I gave the info on how to read them but not where to fine em..... so sorry.

Thanks! I seem to have the D4 which should be limited slip, however when I discovered in the snow that my hubs were shot, I also would just sit and spin one rear tire.......does the limited slip wear out like the hubs?

Thanks guys.

I remember seeing the animated movie back in the mid to late 70's....Damn, I'm getting old..
Welcome to the site, and good luck on your quest..
BTW..Yes, the limited slip does become worn and requires rebuilding..

I dont know what kind of schools you have near you, but around here we learn that story in 1st grade. :bounce: :D
