new muffler

my 2003 XLT ranger has a 2.3 I4 DOHC, and i have recently been thinking about a new muffler for a deeper sound, is it even worth the trouble of installing a new muffler, and if it is what is good for small engines

Unfortunately the 4cyl with a muffler doesn't get lower it just get's louder. It will help performance like for any other engine though.

thanks guys, thats what i am looking for is a little lower and a little louder so i guess this solves the problem about how much performance will it add just curious??

Not very much alone at all. Think about an intake as well as the exhaust.

More air in and more air out will help just about any engine. Your truck won't be fast by any means, but it will improve the performance just a little.
