I am planning on getting some minor body damage fixed on my '91 Sport. The body shop guy said that he could blend the paint back, but it still wouldn't look right. SHould I go ahead andspendthe money to getthewholething repainted? Myexplorer onlyhas 85K miles so I plan on getting alot more milesout of it. Any info or suggestion s would be great. Also, has anyone put catback dual exhaust on their explorer? If so wheredid you get it and how much$$.

if it was me, i would get the whole thing painted. shops can blend nicely, but if your paint is over 10 years old then it won't look the same.

quite a few people have dual exhausts on this site. some have true dual exhaust, others have cat- back.

try modified explorers, or do a search.

If you plan on keeping the Explorer then I would do a complete paint job.
Yes they can blend paint to make it look good, but then what happens with the rest of the old paint down the road. It will start fading faster then the new paint and you will have to repaint again anyways.
If you have the money have it redone.

You didn't say how much you needed touched up. If it is just one or two little spots that is different, but if it is like a door and quarter repaint.

had the same thing done to my 91 XLT about 4 years ago it looked great comng out of the shop but give it a few months of oxdation and you will see where the new paint begins and the old ends. the only thing i can do now is wax when i want the new look back again. If you can afford the whole pant job go for it. it will be worht it when the paint oxidizes in a few months.

i wonder if that's why my doors look dull compared to the rest of my explorer. i just bought it in november, so i dont know what the previous guy did with it.

If you can afford ir, new paont is your best choice. Be sure to get a quality job, the cheapo ones don't hold up.

Good luck....

First, locate an I-CAR rated and certified shop, second, one who displays that they are trained and certified by the paint manufacturer of the material they are using.

Don't take their word for it.

If you chose a shop that has both, they will apply the material correctly and warranty depending up on which paint service you chose.

As far as oxidation of the clear, not a problem.

The paint is computer matched to the present paint, a certiified shop will show you how this is done, second, pay them to polish the clear that is not going to be refinished before they do the actual refinishing.

If you wish to know more about modern clears, both OEM, which is different material than refinish, as well learn some things about refinish materials , go to www.autoint.com and click on Tech Tips Section and take some time to veiw photos and read the explainations.

Good luck.

In that position, I'd go ahead and get my truck painted. But that's me. I also have contacts in the local correctional facility (county jail). They have an auto shop that will do most any work for you at no cost other than parts. A friend of mine had his truck completely repainted for about $200-300. They do really good work. That may only be an option in some areas though.

Paint it silver...that would look tight!!!!
