The shocks on my explorer make noises and my ride as continued to get rougher. What are some good suggestions for better replacement shocks? Oh and what kind of money should I be looking to spend?

I'm in the same boat. GF Explore neeeds shocks, and she not going to want a rougher ride. She already hates the BFG AT's. What should I get her?

I like my Rancho RS5000, ProComp makes some nice one's as well. Maybe some Gabriels or Monroe for street rides.

Bilstein are superb for our Explorers. Been there, done that.

Any feedback on the ProComp EXP-9000? I found them on-sale at 4WheelOnline.com for $125/set of 4.

my vote is for bilstein's also but they do ride stiff. If you want a little control over the firmness of your ride then get rancho 9000's.

I ALMOST went with 9000's, but I figured the adjustability would be overkill for me. I loved what people had to say about Bilsteins on Explorers which is why I went that way. Firm, but I love how they're tuned. I put them on the same day I did my EE rear swaybar and WOW. I drive it hard and it feels like a sports car at times. I can corner hard. They do great on gravel, especially with the AWD. I won't use another shock. I did have Monroe Reflex on my old Sport. Those were firm, but harsh. Bilsteins are a big step up.

Thanks for the info I am going to look into Bilsteins

i actually have the procomp es9000's in the rear of my truck. They are a good offroad shock, but they are stiff on the highways. You will feel every bump but they will also give you good handling. i dont mind the stiffness, i like having the control and handling.

what about the monroe sensatrac for street driving?

Sensatracs are firm, imo...but then again, I haven't had much experience with any other shocks besides these and oem. I have not been off roading and it will be a while until I do, since I have no money for a lift. That being said, I think I'll go with a different shock next time around. I need to do something about this harsh ride, especially with all the construction going on around my area.

I've done the 3" BL, TT, 31's and looking to replace my shocks all around. I like the stiffness I gained with the TT. Will the es9000's add much noticeable stiffness over that?

What do you have up front?

Shocks

Ok here is my opinion ... i have a TT and war shackles in the rear and put new leaf springs... for shocks i put Monroe leveloaders (coilovers) on the rear and the monroe reflex on the front.... im working on some conversions to put monroe coil overs on the front too... but i love em.. great support stabilty... are a little stiff at first but they settled down nicely... so thats my opinion.

I put the shocks and AAL on at the same time so i wouldnt really know. It is stiff, but not that bad. I have bilstein 5150's up front, they are also stiff.
