howdy y'all first off this is a great site(just found it) ...........but how hard do you think it would be to get my 91 explorer in to the 16's?

by the way i have a 91xls explorer 4x4 wit 3" body lift 2"spacer/shackle lift with 33's and i think 3.73 gears maybe 4.10 bought the lift off ebay and the wheels and tires from a local tire store, i havent done anything in performance yet,

what is a nice loud exhaust that adds power?

Do a search and you can find many different performance mods to do to your explorer. If you think you have 3.73 or 4.10 gears, you have 3.73s b/c the 4.10s were only available in 95+ I believe. You can go to your local exhaust shop and get a Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc. exhaust made for about $210, depending on if you get tips, etc. You can also add a KKM intake for about $90. You can add throttle bodies, mass airflow sensors, and some other things. Do a search for "throttle cable mod", it's a free mod that gives you better throttle response. There is also a supercharger made(IDK if it's discontinued or not) for the 4.0 OHV. Just do a search and you'll find a bunch of stuff available.

BTW - Welcome to the site. :)

do i need a supercharger to get in the 16's?

Check the white tag on the drivers door jamb for your axle code. If you have a 3.73 then the code will be d4.

There is a 2nd gen on Turbo in the 10's.

I have my 01 4.0 S0HC best at 15.9, Naturaly Asperated with Apten Chip, KKM intake, and Gibson Exhaust and I have 4wd.

Anything is possiable. I would say you should be able to get there without a S/C. However, it might be quicker to use a S/C.

You might gain a full second quarter mile if you ditch those 33's. It's a start.

Wow Black Magic  I never knew that your truck was 4WD. You've made that 4x4, a very nice looking street truck. :)

You got mud on Black Magic? thats awful, how could you:)

how much horsepower do you think i would need to get my rig in the 16's?

heres the parts i found
ifab intake-15hp
70mm maf-8hp
66mm bbk thorrtle body-12hp
sct superchip-15hp
heddman headers-10hp
flowmaster exhaust-10hp
that equals 70hp

so i should have around 190hp at the wheels it that all i need?

At approx 4800 lbs, you would need at least 215 RWHP to run mid 16s, and a perfect launch etc, the numbers you post above are manufacturers data.
They do not exsist in the real world, good luck

well stock explorer has around 120-130hp and the wheels and wieghts 4100lbs
and runs low-mid 18's
after you mods you wiegh around 4300lbs
i have flowmaster 40series muffler and 2.5" piping and i gain aleast 8hp

so you need 50+hp (guessing)

Go Here, www.battleoftheimports.com/classes/battlecalc.htm
You need to know your exact wgt (wet) and factor in the drivers wgt as well

well how much horsepower do you think those mods will gain?

25-30 max, RWHP, forget the headers

how do you get 25-30rwhp? could you tell me which mods and the power they add?

With all those mods you'll be able to reach the 16's. Just remember whatever money you put in the engine you'll never get back.

Experiance and 400 bux worth of dyno runs and fine tuneing, granted my engine is diff. than yours.
Unless you do some internal mods, all the boltons in the world will never get you 70 H.P in your OEM N/A engine, note I said N/A.
Headers on an OEM V6 do little if anything.
I think if you went with an open intake, a less restrictive exhaust, a chip or flasher tuned for premium gas, and ran Syn oil in your entire drivetrain, 25-30 H.P is realistic.
Of course you could run nitrous and get an instant 70H.P.but thats a whole diff. can of worms, have fun. :D

will a 70mm maf add anything? and will high flow cats add any power? do i need the 2 cats to pass emissions? can i just run one?

The MAF should be added after all the other bolt-ons, and at the most the noticeable difference is minimal, but every little bit helps.
