I second that, after I tow with mine, it usually takes a 200 kms before she goes back to how she drove and shifted before 100%. Unless I pull the battery cable that is. This happens numerous times during the summer.
I believe they say like 200-500 miles to learn to your feel of driving habits if it's still shifting funky after that go back and complain! I went through this process for 3 months! I went there because of harsh reverse and drive they rebuilt it told me drive it 200-500 miles etc did that still harsh r and d came back they reset it repeated process they took trans out rebuilt it again gave it back same problem gave it back they started parts changing gave it back same problem rebuilt a core trans put it in gave it back same problem brought it back again after asking what they replaced and I told them it's a pressure issue cause the shifter was hard to put in gears finally they figured it out trans pump was bad! So after 3 months of this it was a trans pump which should have been checked the second time it came back with a pressure gauge! Point of story don't settle for ok! They tried to say it's normal to me that my trans slams so hard it wants to come out of truck! Drive it 200-300 miles if something feels strange bring it back I hope you have a warenty and not done by a back yard mechanic cause there are things on that trans when rebuilding that require 2 new brass selves installed with special tools!
It's the V6, seems to be okay now after 300 miles, still a sluggish shift at rare times. Taking it back today for the 300 mile checkup for the 3 year warranty. Thanks to all for responses.
2 to 3 is always a sluggish shift on the 5 speed with the factory programming. I have never been able to get it to shift just right 100% of the time even with custom programming.
Thanks Flag,
They looked it over and drove it and said it was good. I can't get it to do it with me, typical, but my wife says it happens still. We'll keep an eye on it, have 36,000 warranty on the rebuild.
Interesting twist. When it is parked on a slope, front end up, it seems to do a double shift, bump-bump, going first to second for a few times and then is fine again. Have only noticed after parking on an uphill slope of about 30 degrees. I'll take it back and see if we can duplicate at the shop.
Sounds very similar to what I have happen occasionally on a 2-3 shift on a steep up hill slope and it was worse before I reprogramed my line pressures and shift points years ago. I personally believe that it is just an issue with the design of this transmission since I have tried a lot of different things to get rid of it including switching to using mobile 1 full synthetic ATF. Honestly, I have gotten it to the point where it only does it on a really steep slope and the fluid has to still be cold (not up to operating temperature). There might be a way to rework the valve body to get rid of it, but I have not had a real reason to go into the transmission yet. However, like Tech by Trade mentioned, maybe all that I and you need to do is adjust the bands, but it doesn't do it all the time so I am hesitant to do so when it is a very specific set of conditions that have to be met before it happens. I'll have to find some down time to talk to my expert transmission guys and see what their thoughts are since they have more experience with these kinds of things than I do.
Thanks all, interesting the transmission guy asked my wife if it was parked on a slope when she complained the first time. Fluid level seems to be a likely candidate..
I'll let you know what they say after taking in again.
