Started when I was driving down the highway and my o/d light comes on and the o/d goes out, so i pull over cut it off and started it back up and it was fine for a day or 2 but after that the overdrive went out again and this time stayed that way. this was my only vehicle at the time so i contiued to drive it (yes i know horrible idea) so after i took it to a shop and they told me in had something to do with the comp??? I dunno. So I looked around on the internet and found someone who was having similar problems and he changed his valve body and put in a shift kit and fixed his problems. So I thought no big deal Ill do it myself, I bought a rebuilt valve body with new solenoids and shift kit. Then went home and started on it I dropped the pan pulled and valve body. I had to put a pause on the project cause i had knee surgery. So the truck sat for about 2 months so I finally got around to putting the valvebody and shift kit today, put tranny fluid in and started it up let it run for alittle bit then shifted through the gears and added more fluid drove it around the neighborhood shifting kinda funny pulled back in checked the fluid and try to put it in reverse and it went forward??????? so i cycled back through the gears and every gear was going forward including neutral, cut the car off but was able to push in backwards while it was in neutral but goes forward when the cars on. Drove again and od loght comes back on. help please need a fix.

The only thing that come to mind is a misadjusted shifter mechanism. Have you had someone run it through the gears while you check the lever at the trans? Make sure it's hitting all the detents properly.

It almost sounds like the manual valve is stuck in one position, I'm not sure how the tranny could go forward in nuetral unless that was the case.

Are you sure you connected the manual valve back up to the shifter assembly when you slid the valve body in? you need to get the shift knob into the slot of the manual valve. that would be my guess

the good news is that you are probably ok, the bad news is that you need to remove the pan again to check it. I hope you installed a drain plug in the pan to make the removal much easier <hint, hint...>

you've come this far, and a shop is going to tell you that you need to rebuild the whole tranny, new parts or not...
