my name is adam and i am almost 18 and i have a 92 xlt 4.0 2wd. i am going to get either a 40 series or super 40 series flowmaster muffler. what i need to know is- what inlet/outlet sizes i have and how much it will cost to have the stock muffler taken off and new flow put on (either welded or clamped) and how much of a difference i should be expecting. i am gettin it mainly for that :Dflowmaster:D sound but performance increase is never a bad thing. thank you

Using a new cat back would be best. All I can comment on is that the new system should be 2 1/4". I think. Any bigger will take away some of your engine tourqe.

so i've heard. but the thing is is that i really dont have the money for all the cat back and whatnot so i am just going with the solo muffler

does anybody have the stock cats, without a muffler, and a side pipe. i want to do this because i need to pass emissions and i dont have a tail pipe, and have a CD sized hole in the muffler. (rusted and fell off)

I'm replacing my muffler pretty soon... I was going to go with a Flowie 40 Series... would ya'll recommend a 60 Series instead?

Also... the two... things after the muffler are resonators, correct? Or are they cats? What happens if I replace those with just plain pipes?

i have the stock cats and about an foot and a half of pipe after it and no muffler. sounds pretty mean and havent had any problems with it and its been about a month. no problems with fums coming inside no bad smells. though i should probably get a bracket for it cause it rattles around a lot and its annoying

arent 40 series louder?

60 series delta flow flowmaster, there made for small v6 motors....

haha thats funny man, i was just looking on your car domain page the other day and wishing i could get mine to sound similar. is that really all from just a 60 series delta muffler without cold air intake or cat back or any other mods? how much do you think it would cost to have somewhere take the stock one off and put on the flow?

I was told a Flowie 40 Series was about $130 CAD... on top of that, you just have to count maybe like 30 minutes to install the new one. If yours is clamped, which it probably is, it's just a matter of unclamping it, removing the stock one, welding hangers onto the Flowie, and reinstalling. I would estimate you could get it done including the muffler for under $100. Shop around a bit. Most shops will charge extra though if you don't buy the muffler from them... just ask the shop first.

its got a open air tipe filter, custom pvc intake, and i ran a 1in. pipe down the center of the converters...

wellfor whatever one i decide to get, do i get 2.25 inch inlet/outlet or what? and do i need to get off center or center inlet/outlet?

Yes, it's off center... I think the inlet is offet, the outlet is centered...

And yes, if your exhaust is 2.25", keep the same size. If you want to go pseudo-dual exhaust (like I want to once I mount the tire carrier) I would go with dual 2" outlets to keep backpressure... otherwise keep the single 2.25"...

I know it's a dead thread, but a little information...

Might be a newbie to this forum, but I have worked in exhaust shops for a while. Flowmaster 60 series was originally made for the import car scene, as the internals were made for a vehicle with little to no tailpipe. For an Explorer such as ours, I would actually recommend a 40 or 50 series, even if they are made for the larger motors, but don't expect that deep loud flowmaster sound without doing a cat-back with 2.5" pipe, and high flow converters. My ideal recommendation is to do away with the Y pipe and run true duals, even through the length would be different, install an X crossover before the mufflers. As a cheap way to get a different tone, you could always get a Moroso spiral flow muffler from Jegs.com. I still have my stock exhaust if anyone might still need it.

o my.....

well i already ordered a 40 series that will fit right. so do i just cut off the stock muffler and either weld on the new one or clamp it?
