'89 Bronco II
I'm new to this site and have seen lots of good info so far. My problem is I'm have a '94 Explorer 2WD donor vehicle that I am putting the 4.0 into my '89 Bronco II 4X4. Both have the A4LD. I have changed the harness and computer and need to know what my best choice of tranny configuration is here. The '94 has just been rebuilt < 1,000 miles but is 2WD. Can I use it with my transfer case or could I use the torque converter from it and put it in my '89 A4LD. I'd like to go manual in the future but for now cash flow says the auto has to work for awhile.

Check me on this but I think I recall reading that the output shafts are different between the 4WD and 2WD versions. Plus of course you'd need the tailhousing, but you have that.

I have determined you are correct about the output shaft. Been learning more about automatics then I ever wanted to know recently. My big question is can I use the 4.0 torque converter in my '89 tranny. I could build the '94 tranny to fit with the proper output shaft and put it on the shelf until needed or just sell it as is. I understand with these A4LD's it's only a matter of time.
