Hello all,
I just purchased a 98 SOHC sport with 40,000 miles for $13,000 and a beat to death 86 Izusu Trooper
I took the truck to the dealer who originaly sold the vehicle to get a service history so I know where I stand as far as maintenance work. The service person informed me there was a recall to replace the cam chain tensioner and I should schedual an appointment asap. After searching this forum, I learned a noise on startup is the most common sign of a bad tensioner. Also it seems many people who have had this repair seem to still have problems (maybe they are just the ones who continue to post and others are happy?). When I start the truck in the morning I hear an ever-so-slight knock (only noticable from outside the truck) it goes away before I arrive at work 5 minutes later. This truck runs GREAT! The engine pulls strong through the RPM range and my gas mileage is good (18 mpg). Should I bring a good running vehicle in for recall work or should I abide by the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule?
My auto tranny question has to do with a discrepancy between my manual and the dealer service person. Manual says change the tranny fluid every 30,000 mi. The dealer says my truck with 40,000 (and no history of tranny fluid change) doesn't need a change yet. What gives??
Thanks for your help!
Brian
