Ford 20m Cosworth V6
Newbie from Norway, now with pictures of car

Hi

This will be my first post and I have to admit I dont have either an Explorer or an Ranger.. :) The car I drive is a 69`Ford 20m, old german car. I`ve got a 2.9 24v Cosworth engine in it,(same engine block as the us engines) and the A4LDe that came with the engine. Pulled that out of an 93`Scorpio Cosworth. Got an aftermarked Emerald ecu and it should put out somewhere around 230 horse. Have been searching for information about the A4LD auto box and often ended up in this forum as a guest. Thought I`d register and dig deeper into the forum. :)
The stallspeed in my car is way to low (16-1800rpm), so I`l be looking for information about torque converters, also I find the 5R55W gearbox interesting with it`s wide ratio setup, wonder if I could make it work in my car.

Welcome!

You should definitely get some pictures up! Would be cool to see an older vehicle on here.

welcome

Welcome to this forum! There is one thread on this site about this odd version of the A4LD which is not sold in the US. It has an EPC solenoid located where the vacuum modulator is on the US version. It has no solenoids in the valve body, and the bell housing is different too.

Welcome!

Thank you :)

I will try posting a couple pictures later today.

Hi
There are actually two versions of the gearbox used in the Cosworth`s, one is the A4LDe (mind the little e) who has two electric solenoid to control the overdrive and lockup. The A4LDE is a fully electronic gearbox. Mine (the A4LDe) was originaly controlled by the engine management unit, since that now is gone I have made two svitches for the solenoids. I made a two step svitch for the lockup, once I hit the brakes it will cut the power and deactivate it. I was told that the solenoids would burn if I gave them a constant 12V, but the car has been running like this for a year now, guess I proved them wrong. There were some changes to the gearboxes in the Cosworth version to make them stronger, but I can`t tell you what. My guess is they share some components with the us 4.0 verions..? The boys I`ve been talking to over in England say they can withstand up to 300 horse if you fitt the biggest aftermarked oil cooler possible and change oil and filter every now and then. Remember our engines have less torque but revs better with more horse than the early 4.0. As for the bell housing I thought they were the same being hooked up with the "cologne" engine. I have seen "frankenengines" ;) made using a 4.0 bottom half with 24V heads and intake bolted onto "european" gearboxes.

Yes that is the gearbox, but this one is fitted with the peugeot 2.5 diesel bellhousing.
Sorry about the late reply.
