Have 1997 Limited. Need some suggestions on making it quicker. Already have the FIPK on the air meter. Thinking of going with stainless steel headers. I can't find hi-flow cats anywhere. Also a Bassani cat back. What gears do I have? Anyone have a shift improvement kit? Oh, I am also going with Tokico shocks and Steeda rear and front sway bars for more stability. Anyone have any suggestion for a little more pep? Thanks!

First off, welcome to the site!

Second, we'll need some more info: What engine do you have? What is you axle code(found on the driver's door jam sticker)? Headers and cat-back are good starts. I wouldn't get the high-flow cat if you have a V-6, not enough back pressure to see performance gains.
Next I would get a Superchip, with headers you will want to get a custom program on the chip. It all depends on how much cash you're willing to spend. You could get a high performance MAS, throttle body spacers, or even a supercharger$$$ or a nitros kit. Anyhow, browse around the site and you will find PLENTY of ways to...as my daughters say "go ZOOMING!!!" . If you want to get really serious, look for a guy by the handle of "TROLL" on this site...he has a 400+ hp explorer!

Ah yes, more info. It is the 5.0 V-8 2WD.
I would love to get the Kenne Belle Whipple charger but my Mustang gets dibs on a blower first. I'll have to check on the axle but I'm told it has 3:08's. I can't find pulleys for it either. Man the Bassani cat back is $465. What other cat back is good for these trucks for a little less? Anyone else have some suggestions?

I put a Flowmaster cat back on mine, cost $159.00 from Summit Racing. Works great. Noticeable difference in power and tone. I don't know if they have one for the Five Oh.

Summit doesn't have one for a 97 5.0 (Damn!). Guess I will have to build a cat back.

you might find one from Borla or even Gibson...I have a borla and love it, nice sound and hp gain. I've also heard a Gibson on a 2k f150 5.4L...WOW!!! very nice, and alot cheaper than Borla and Bassani.

Hey, thanks for the link.

Finally!! Another fellow Floridian from Boca. Welcome Vibrant!

You don't have Awd? i thought every limited that is made and was made had Awd or 4x4. I thiought all V8's came with Awd. Or did you drop in a 5.0. If i were you, i would just find a shop that would put a cat-back on for you. Flowmaster is what i have on mine and i like it. Its all on what sound you lookin for. lata

4WD/AWD has been an option on any model explorer, no matter trim level

but to get a V8 don't you have to get Awd?

I thought so too. At least up until 2002 anyways.
4.6L Triton V8! H*LL YEAH!

So is mine a AWD?

down here in Florida its hard to find an exploder that is actually 4wd or awd. some dealers dont even carry them, they can get them up but dont really stock them. there is no demand. most of the 8cyl 'sploders that i drive at work are not 4wd.

Hey, welcome to the site! If you see "All Wheel Drive" under the "V-8" emblem then it's an AWD, if not, then it's not AWD.

the 5.0 V8 comes in two options. either it is AWD which means there is no sleection of low range or it comes in 2wd...there is no toher option for the v8 explorer

I have the 2WD because there is no mention of AWD anywhere on this vehicle.
