so you gonna come on sunday!!!!!!!

Well I'm officially out. Even if I could get out of my Sunday commitment. I took the truck in to get a front end squeak taken care of (innocent enough, right?) and turns out I need $1,300-$1,400 worth of suspension work. Since I have $100 left to my name, I can't afford any of it. I'm going to hold off on getting anything done and pray the front end holds up long enough for me to graduate in 2 months and land a full time job to pay for all this crap. Until then, no off roading for me. :(

Have fun guys, I expect plenty of pictures.

:eek:1300-1400 worth of work on the front end? did they tell you what the problem was? that seems like an awful lot... if you need that much work then it wouldnt be safe to drive!

if i don't wake up in time to go wheeling on sunday you should drive it down to my house- i'll tell ya whats wrong with it... that just dont seem right!

Ball joints and bad bearings. He's not bullshittin me either, I was under there the whole time checking it out with him. I'm just going to pray the ball joints stay in and the bearings don't seize up and cause any other damage. :(

This is turning out just like my Mustang club. We were 27 strong on the first cruise and abour 12 the next. All because of busted stuff : (fake names)bob split his axle, tony and john blew their motors, mike had a front end collision, jake went racing lost contol and rolled his, etc.

Also you're coming now right, Dan? :D you can be just like our friend, Matt. then we'll have 2 Chevys :D

My truck is still running strong. My brother just started it up yesterday....hopefully he does not try and take it for a spin like he did with my RX-7 and blow a rear apex seal.

man that sounds like a lot of money for ball joints and bearings, i did both my bearings last year (similar to an explorer i think) and they didn't take very long, ball joints aren't usually too bad, haven't done em on an explorer yet but done em on other cars, i'd get a second opinion on those repairs

oh matt, you'll be waking up on time, i'll make sure of it!

and don't be sending dan the add for that over priced high mileage heap you sent me

Hey Jason:
Wheel hub&bearing assemblies : $150 each
Spindle Nuts: $4 each
Outer Tie Rods: $55 each for Moog / $30 each for TRW / $12 each for no-name-brand
Upper Balljoints: $100 each (complete upper control arm)
Lower Balljoints: $52 each for Moog/ $32 for TRW / $14 each for no-name-brand

So we can replace your ENTIRE front end (i included tie rods for the hell of it) with top quality parts for $725... Add in $80 for an alignment and $25 for a case of beer and we're talking about $830 total<---- remember that's replacing everything... im not sure if you need both bearings and all 4 balljoints.

And Pete:
Na he needs to look at chevys with the 5.3L ;)

Matt,

He told me $900+ for parts and roughly $350 for labor.

I think he was replacing upper and lower ball joints, both bearings (I think just my passenger side was really bad, but he was doing both I think?), and tie rods. So it's close to the same.

I still can't afford any of it. I have about $100. I would love to do it myself, but I don't have the time (gotta be back at school Sunday) the know-how (wouldn't know where to start with this stuff) or, obviously, the money.

I think my only option is to cross my fingers and pray...

I'm just going to pray the ball joints stay in and the bearings don't seize up and cause any other damage. :(

let me fix your understanding of what will happen. your bearings won't just seize... your tire will fall off

now i dont know how bad of shape everything is actually in- just letting you know that the outcome can be worse than you may be thinking.

egh, i wheeled mine with bearings so bad i could feel the bearinf vibration more than the rough terrain, yeah that wasn't smart but they held till i had time to replace em, 350 for labor? sounds like he's planning to take his sweet time on that job

I think my only option is to cross my fingers and pray...

Or get a credit card. The interest you'd pay on $800-$900 over a few months is minimal, especially when taking into account safety. We can make the next DJOR meet consist of me installing your front end parts :salute:

im in for a little wrenchin if you guys want a hand with that

Hmm. If I could order the parts and spare a weekend, you guys would be willing to help out? I do have an Amex I could charge this all on.

I'm free on the 16th. If I didn't BS and just did my thing, I can have that whole front end together in 1-2 hours max. If you want to learn how to do it and get your hands dirty we can take our time with it and I'll coach you through

certainly, i love doin some mechanic work on the weekends, just let me know and i can usually make time

Wow, you are the man. I'm very, very appreciative for the offer, from both of you. I'll think it over in the next few days and let you know. 1-2 hours for all that? THAT is impressive.

Also, are you Hamilton in Mercer or Monmouth?
