85 Ranger 2.3 EFI 4WD
'85 2.3 efi 5spd. tk Cannister has return line to fuel tank & line to bottom of upper intake manifold-thats it. I was under the impression that the venting of the cannister was controlled via a cannister purge valve, yet i do not see any such device. Straight manifold vacuum one side and the return to the fuel tank on the other. Anybody can shed some light on this?:salute:

Bump. Anyone have thoughts on this?

have you looked for an open electrical connection within say 12-16" of the cannister???...if not, there is usually one of those inline check disc installed...i have purchased trucks that people had removed those...i will try to look up some info on your year...;)

what i checked on that is that is one of those year trucks...they start off with parts for 65% of those and then the break down is in 1% increments from there...i did find that you should have at least a solenoid or a valve...here's a link for the parts, i hope it will help...

Thanks tbars4. The link shows a '83 p/n listed. And yes, i do have an electrical connector(2 wire square) , unused, sitting sort of at the back of the washer/ coolant overflow. That might be the one for the phantom canp solenoid. I bought this truck new in 85 & it was always a problem trying to get it to pass the emissions test. What tech data i have on the truck is incomplete in my Chilton and Haynes books. Couldn't hurt to get a shop manual i guess. :salute:

cool, you just might want to check the part number when you get it as i actually looked up a 4x2...i don't know how to do it but some of the guys on this board pull up full schematics off autozone.com...
just make sure that connection is not for your wiper fluid, lol...;)
