Hi. I am back with another question, do I check the fuel pump preasure from the bleed point with the blue cap on the fuel line to the motor, because if I do there is no preasure there. It started & run for five minutes quite ok, I tried to start the engine a bit later & no go. Any ideas what is going on there.

Yes, check pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail. The moment the key is turned to the run position, the pump should pressurize the fuel rail.

Considering you have a rebuilt motor put in, there are more potential issues (likelihood of them) like wiring problems, but otherwise this is just typical of needing a new fuel pump. You can measure for whether power is getting to the fuel pump.

Thank you for the advice, I will have to check the fuel pump as I have no preasure at the valve, The relay is working ok. everything else is working well.

Can any one tell me where the inertia switch for the fuel pump is located in the 98 explorer

well done thus far!
Just before you get ready to drop the tank
Now that you have confirmed the fuse, relay and ineria switch are good the last step is :

to check for power coming from the truck side of things when the key is turned
and you can send power to the pump to make sure it is indeed the issue

There is a 8 pin connector back by the tank, drivers frame rail near rear tire the fuel pump wires all travel through there
By doing these two tests I have saved myself from dropping the tank more then once on one of these trucks

power coming from truck side, ok
Send battery power to the pump and no pressure or noise OK
time to drop tank

We recommend Bosch OEM pumps ONLY here
If you are going through the trouble of dropping the tank put in a GOOD PUMP
some of the aftermarket ones are JUNK

Hi. I have done a bit of looking for problems & found that if I unplug the wires to the pump at the rear under the wheel arch, leave it for a while & then plug it back in & turn the ignition on, the pump will preasure up the system & the motor will start run & rev up & down without a problem, then if I turn the ignition of the motor will not start up again & the pump preasure has gone. As you have allready worked out electronics isn't my trade. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on there.

in a post above, you say the relay is good. Has it been replaced with a new relay? They can get weak and fail to preform with age.
