likely cause is your MFS switch

Have you checked the fuses? I "think" the tail lights are fused separately from the 3rd brake light. I remember having a similar issue with my 01 when I was working on my trailer lights, and my problem turned out to be blown fuses.

all fuses are good, none blown

It could also be your tailight sockets are bad, although it would be unusual for them to go out at the same time. I've had to replace both of mine but they went bad one at a time.

Maybe obtain a wiring diagram and test the continuity/resistance of the wires to make sure they're still conducting properly? There could be a disconnect, corrosion or short somewhere?

as I was saying, likely cause of your PARTICULAR problem IS the MFS switch.
