'92 XLT 4x4 (4 door)
Just picked up a 92 xlt and it doesn't seem to have much power. Runs fairly smooth, doesn't feel like it's missing a cylinder. But when I'm on the highway, I have to keep the pedal to the floor to keep it at 110 KM/H (about 65 MPH). And in the city when I floor it to go in the passing gear, it doesn't go very fast. Is there a way that my accelerator pedal is not adjusted properly?
Thanks!

What gears does your X have? Mine has 3.73 and at 65 I don't need to give it much throttle to pick up speed.

Not sure on the gears. But it seems like there's not much travel in the gas pedal. It feels like if it would go down further, i would have more power.

do a search for throttle cable mod, you need to check that your TB plate is opening fully with the gas pedal.
65 should be easy to maintain in a sport

Might also check to make sure there's nothing underneath the pedal (the carpet, some kid's teddy bear, someone's shoe).

Or its a really tired 4 liter trying to push a 4000lb truck...lol

REALLY tired.

i would opt for the throttle cable adjustment. otherwise its a tried 4 liter

A compression test will tell you if the engine is worn out.
I doubt it, they are hard to kill.
Likely just needs a full tune up if your throttle cable checks out, however your first guess is usually dead on, if you suspect the gas pedal is not traveling fully (meaning its not opening the throttle fully) then dont be surprised if you find it to be the culprit

After the Throttle cable mod i would still do a full tune up cause you dont really know when the last one was done.

Scrap the 4 liter and do a 7.3 turbo diesel swap

that doesnt fall under the catagory of "swap" that falls under complete body off conversion because the only way thats gonna happen is if the explorer body is set on a full size frame.

also the 7.3L is garbage IMO :)

7.3 sounds better.
Dispite the fact this is way off topic, i personally preffer the sound of the turbo spooling on the quieter 6.0L. :p
