Thank you in advance: 1992 Ford explorer 2wd manual tranny. Not sure model.

I do not know what there called to look them up. Once you tell me what they are, if you can I will do a search.

Was replacing rear shock and noticed this, just in case you cannot tell it is to the left of the rear differential

Axle vent. Take the rotted piece of and just run a piece of air hose in it's place and secure with a hose clamp.

I do the same thing on my trail rig and it works just fine

Ty, I thought it might be a vent but wanted to make sure before just continuing to leave it open.

Any thoughts on the Video...I might need to take a better video..Let me know

Not sure what video you're referring to, it doesn't show up for me.

The tube is for the vent as Codepoet said. A short stub of hose like that will be more likely to let water and dirt in. A longer chunk of hose would be best. Secure it to a bracket nearby; making it arch up and then down is a good idea to avoid water intake. The tubing is just regular rubber hose, available cheaply from any auto parts store. Do not plug the open end of the tube. Just make sure it's not hanging low.

Considering your tube is so short, it would be a good idea to check the fluid in the rear differential. If it is milky looking then the fluid is contaminated with water and should be changed. It is a good idea to change it out anyways if it has not been done in recent times. Your parts store will supply the required paper gasket for the diff cover, the proper weight and quantity of gear oil, and friction modifier additive (if you have a limited slip differential).

Vent hose, A.K.A. breather hose/tube.

;)

The unit in the video is the air conditioning compressor. Does the A/C work? If not, then it's definitely shot (not pumping properly). If it does work, I'd still be suspicious it's time may be short.

Yes A/C works great. I was wondering if that was what it was because I did not have a/c on when I took video. My cousin is a/c tech so I will have him look at it. Thank you for suggestions on rear dif. I probably will just change it. It has probably never been done before.
