96 Ford Ranger
Hey guys been researching this forum for a long time now and finally decided to join as i definitely need help. I have been researching for days and my truck has been out of commission for too long now.

I'll start off with a little background on the truck. It is a 96 Ford Ranger, 4.0 5 speed originally. The motor had a knock and the trans got stuck in 4th gear so I recently bought a 96 Explorer to swap motor and trans. I drove the Explorer home 200 miles. It ran and drove great. So my truck now has the 4.0 OHV out of the Explorer and the 4r55e trans. I also swapped the explorer computer into the truck. I am using my 1354 electric Transfer Case originally out of the ranger. On to the problem now. The O/D Light is flashing, obviously causing the trans to be in limp mode with very hard shifts. I am getting a p0707 code, which refers to the trans range sensor low input. Seeing this I tried finding any loose or dirty connections. I found none, cleaning everything anyways. So today I spent $65 on a new Range Sensor from O'reilly's and installed it. Still getting same p0707 code after clearing codes and O/D Light still flashing with trans still shifting in limp mode(full line pressure). I am at a loss, I have been trying to figure it out for 3 days with nothing changing. I have been searching every forum I could to no avail. If somebody knows of something that may help please let me know. I need this truck as a daily driver to commute to and from work. Thank you for reading!

Welcome to this forum! Check the ground strap on the transmission for damage & corrosion. Check the wiring harness & connections to the range sensor, and the battery. Clean the battery terminals, and make sure that there's no corrosion on the ground lead which is connected to the body of the vehicle.

I don't have a ground strap on the transmission. If I add one should it go to the frame or the body like the one on the engine does? Thanks

I have added a ground strap from transmission to the frame. I just happened to have one laying around. I have also ran a new wire from the computer to the transmission range sensor (light blue w/ yellow stripe) and nothing has changed. Battery is brand new along with new wires and connectors. I'm at a loss.

ABS light on by any chance?

The ABS light is on, yes.

Replace the sensor on the rear differential, see if that helps the problem.

Done that. No difference. I found tonight under the dash in the Explorer was a one wire connector that is the same light blue w/ yellow as the trans range sensor. Also noticed that wire in the clutch switch that is all in the ranger. Can't find anywhere for the one under the dash in the Explorer to connect under the dash in the ranger near the steering column. Wondering if anyone knows if this could be something needed.

I seem to remember once upon a time when I worked at a Ford dealer as a Tech, having this same trouble. Replaced the diff sensor and drove it and had the same problem. If I am remembering correctly, and I could be blowing smoke here because of year model difference, but the truck I worked on had some sort of service bulletin on it for a big square connector under the drivers seat. It was something about water intrusion causing corrosion that would cause this complaint. Might want to try googling that to see what comes up.
