O/D light flashing

Need Help,
The o/d light flashes sometimes and the it don't. The transmission shift hard into thrid gear, no matter it the light is on or not. I have changed the fluid and filter, but it still does it. The Explorer has 90,000 miles on it. Please Help.

The O/D light flashing is a code. I suggest taking it to a local shop that can read transmission codes and have it scanned.

several things can set that off.... often it is a detected difference between shaft speeds at certain points in the transmission, often indicating excessive slippage of the OD band or elsewhere....once we started measuring speeds at various points, the computer can signal us when they don't match up as expected. How many miles on the unit ?

there are 90k on this truck, I do notice that when it shifts into the 3rd gear the rpms pick up about 600 rpms. Would you think the solenoid, might need to be replaced.

I would think that pulling the code from the computer will tell you what is wrong.
A flashing OD light means the trans is in default mode, line pressures are increased, etc you should not drive it much if any.

:exp: I had the same problem with 4r55e re-built and I send to a Ford dealer to get the codes and it's the solenoid "C" the defective one
the code was P0761. So check it out before you burn your tranny.

yup,od light is flashing and will n ot shift into od.changed 4x4 switch,it was flashing too.got2.5 miles of extreme off road on my place and its killing me to walk for deer.if i cant fix it soon i;m gonna blow it up with my 50 cal. anybody wanna buy tickets?maybe ill get enough to buy a chevy.

OK so the other day this happened to my 2005 Sport Trac w/ 76000 miles. Flashing O/D light with hard shifting But it only happened once and not again in the last 2 days. It is a daily driver and we do not do any off roading.

Looking for advice on what to do as I am not a DIY kind of guy. Take it to dealership? Take it to local guy? Do nothing since it has not done it again? What am I looking at in terms of cost? Thanks for any info.

Take it to the local guy, have him read the codes.

with this being such a common issue, is there a thread just for it that all the post could be put in. I read somewhere that Ford even put out a tsb for tolerances are to tight and a module had to be replaced. This should have a thread all its own, there are way to many scattered about here. I have the same issue, and looking around and finding a lot of duplicate things to try and what not. Very time consuming if you ask me. Hey Mods, lets do some thing here.
