I am sure most of us here have used octane booster at one time or another. Is it normal to have the RPMs to kinda jump around a bit more with it in the tank. My car seems much faster and responsive although the idle seems odd now with it in there. Is this normal?

Not with me, I bought some since I bought my Apten chip. Checking to see if the octane boosters make a difference mixed with 92, or if it's the same as just using 92 and no boosters. My idling is fine, if not better, since I started using the boosters. I don't think most of them even do much of anything anyways though.

WIth octane booster my explorer is MUCH more powerful. Its actually quite amazing since I never noticed any differnce with my other vehicles. The car is very touchy on the gas pedal and drives quite jerky with the extra power.

Do you have a chip? And what octane are you running excluding the booster? That touchiness sounds like it's great! With my chip, my 92, my booster, and the few other things I have done, and this thing is fun! I drive this more then the Durango now, it's just so quick! BTW, which octane booster are you using?

may be you need to get your injectors cleaned? if you want to get some quick power put a quart of model areoplane fuel in the tank i used to use it when i was younger in a z1000 motorbike but it burns pretty hot so watch ya dont burn out ya valves or pistons

Off topic (kinda), is the lowest octane in Australia 92? And my post is 420. Haha. Ok. Enough.

i thinks the lowest is 89 for lead replacement cars regular is 92 and premium is 98 {i think}

i really dont see how octane booster is givin you guys more power...not any different then running higher octane gas. If you dont need it, it doesnt help. So far in all Ive read NOS octane booster is the only one that actually works. Most octane boosters at 3x recomended strength didnt even raise octane 1 full point.

Octane will NOT give you more power, unless you were already losing power to pinging in the first place. I have no idea where people get the idea that octane is some sort of power system in your fuel. All it does is prevent early detonation. I put 93 in my X once and noticed NOTHING. In fact, I lost power because the computer wasn't tuned for the 93 octane and all the fuel wasn't combusting.

one thing to remember guys... octane booster is rated in points. each point=0.1 octane. this is VERY misleading. if a booster says it will raise octane by 8 points, its only raising it 0.8 points on the octane scale.

93 octane fuel + 104plus booster= 93.8 to 94 octane.

even if you need extra octane (boost/nitrous), you would have to run 4-5 bottles a tank to be worthwhile. not worth the $$$ IMHO.

I've run booster a few times. I ran it at the track with my nitrous to limit detonation. It let me advance my timing a little more for about .1 sec off my ET.

I've used it twice on trips when gas pumps malfunctioned and gave me 87 instead of premium. I still had to retard my timing, but at least I didn't blow my motor.

I used it for a month straight, a bottle per tank, when I was visiting California. The highest premium there is 91 octane and my truck likes 93. Again, I still had to retard my timing compared to when I'm in higher elevations with 91 or in Texas with 93, but it just helped me limit knocking.

All these uses for me are only possible because I can control my spark timing and fuel pressure easily.

For the Aussies, are those octane numbers americanized? I remember putting LRP in my esky that was rated at 96 octane. For the seppo's, american octane ratings are an average of RON and MON and aussie fuels are just one of those measurements I can't remember which. I also have a formula to make your own octane booster. If anyone would like it I'll post it up.

Might as well post it. It's just alcohol, a mixture, it's what AMPM uses.

i dont know went to the gas station last night they dont know and its not posted at the pump there is a big scandel about mixing ethanol with petrol here at the moment so the goverment passed a law that prohibits more than 10%

i tried a bottle of NOS booster a little while back and didn't notice a difference if there was one. not worth it if you ask me, but i don't have a chip, either.

Well see that's the point. Octane won't do much of anything unless your computer is told to advance the timing.

I'll have to check the brand. Its quite odd because I usually never notice it with any of my other vehicles. Ity started last week when i decided to put some in there to try and clean things up. After about 50 miles into the tank I started noticing a little jerkyness in the idle of my explorer. Once I started driving it was noticably more forceful in acceleration. When i drive it now the explorer has a odd jerky fluxing in its coasting.

After I ran the tank out I filled it up with pure 89 octane and it eventually ran as normal. I decided to put another bottle in with the next tank and its doing it again. I cant imagine it being coincidence.

Do these engines have knock sensors? the knock sensor makin the computer dump more fuel. You might see an improvement then since the octane booster might take away the knocking. Octane booster is also hard on plugs. Alot of them turn plugs pinkish/purpleish
