Hey Guys, looking to see if anyone has ran into this problem and was able to
fix it or know how to fix it. I didn't find anything in the search.
OK I have a 97 4dr 4.0 ohv explorer and one of my instrument cluster lights were out, so after BIGTIG'S great thread on here, I decided to give it a go. Replaced light in the cluster NO Problem everything went back together great. So I went on a trip the next day and at about 150 miles the tripmeter stopped and I also noticed the odometer stopped. CRAP! So then I take it all back apart thinking maybe a one of the three wire plugs on the back of the cluster came loose. NO such luck! Does anybody have any thought about this?

Does the speedo still work properly?

Yes, I remember when I did mine (changed them to LED), the circuit board on the back was quite flimsy and easy to break. Check the connections and reseat everything.

yes speedometer still works! All gauges work except odometer and trip!

OK guys just found out what the problem was with my odometer and tripmeter!! Took everything back apart and remove guage from the cluster and found a small plastic tab floating around inside. This was one (top one) of two tabs that holds the worm gear down agaisnt the drive gear for the odometer and tripmeter to work. So this cause the worm gear to lay back and not touch the main gear. So I'm going to glue, tape or somekind of bonding agent to hold the worm gear in place. Thanks to all who replied and all the people who submit questions and answers to this great forum. It feels good to know that their are people out their who still care about other people.

I have a 96 Sport and my odometer and tripometer stopped working as well. Any chance you could post a picture to where the wire was unattached?
